Black and white photograph depicting Oscar of the Waldorf helping eight-year-old Marjorie Hunt bake a cake for the First Lady. On March 1, 1934, the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel hosted a reception and tea celebrating the 22nd birthday of the Camp Fire Girls. Under the guidance of Oscar Tschirky and Fleuriot (head pastry chef), Marjorie Hunt baked Eleanor Roosevelt Cake (angel food cake iced in white with blue scallops) and presented it to Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was guest of honor at the event.

"The Jade Room... Popular as a setting for New York's smaller social gatherings"
Black and white photograph depicting the Jade Room from the 1935 publication "The Waldorf-Astoria" by Richard Averill Smith. <br /> The room is so named for its beautiful jade green walls with carvings and ornaments in gold. The pilasters and columns at the north end of the room are Italian vert mentalto marble and the room is lit by crystal and gold chandeliers.<br /> The room was originally <a href="../show/145">the Bradley-Martin Ballroom and converted to the South Cafe and Reading Room</a> before this iteration.
