One Way to Make Ice...
Waldorf Astoria Hotel
The old refrigeration plant of the Waldorf Astoria used to house large amounts of ice blocks. The "Glass Tinkler" was responsible for shuffling these blocks and breaking them down into chips that were to be used throughout the entire hotel.
However, with the invention of the ice machine, this job was no longer necessary.
