Mural painting and decoration
Black and white photograph depicting the Sert Room from the 1935 publication "The Waldorf-Astoria" by Richard Averill Smith.
"The murals are almost in monochrome on white gold...a very dark brown with reddish browns, black and burgundy...the compositions extending all around the room depict the story of Quiteria, from Don Quixote."
Referenced by Lent's 1934 publication: "...it is named after the Spanish painter, Jose Maria Sert, whose fifteen remarkable mural paintings form the wall panels of the room. In tones of brown against silver, Sert has portrayed scenes from 'The Marriage of Quiteria,' described in Cervantes' 'Don Quixote.' Each panel, set between deep red hangings, is an architectural composition in itself, broad in inspiration, brilliant in execution."
