Description

This photo features (left to right) Theodore Kroell, Oscar of the Waldorf, Auguste Escoffier, the Honorable M. Mongendre (Consul General of France to the United States) and Pierre Bermond. Auguste Escoffier was considered to be the most celebrated culinary authority and "father" of French cookery during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.

This luncheon was given in honor of the late Auguste Escoffier by Oscar on October 30, 1930 and was held in the 38th floor Tower apartment of the Sherry-Netherland hotel. This luncheon was held at the Sherry-Netherland because the Waldorf-Astoria would not be completed until the following year.
