Title

"The Empire Room...A setting of sparkling gaiety for dinner and dancing."

Description

Black and white photograph depicting the Empire Room from the 1935 publication "The Waldorf-Astoria" by Richard Averill Smith.

Referenced by Lent's 1934 publication: "...the Empire Room of today is distinguished by a more modern interpretation of the Empire period style. Its wainscoting and pilasters are of Serpentine green marble. The walls are of harewood stained and finished in light grey. The hangings, of specially woven silk damask, are based on designs taken from old documents of the Empire period, worked in gold against an empire green background."
