The Automobile Club of America Annual Banquet
Title
The Automobile Club of America Annual Banquet
Subject
Automobile Club of America
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel (New York, N.Y.)--1890-1930
Dinners and dining--History
Description
This Dempsey & Carroll event program and menu is from the Twelfth Annual banquet of the Automobile Club of America. The Automobile Club of America was the precursor to what is known today as "Triple A" or "AAA." Due to the sensitive state of this dinner program, the menu was not able to be scanned.
In attendance were President Howard Taft, German Chancellor Count J.H. von Bernstorff, Col. John Jacob Astor, Hon. Chauncey M. Depew, Mr. Henry Sanderson (President of the Club), among other notable guests.
Abstract
Due to the "street" that ran between both the Waldorf and Astoria Hotels, known as Astor Place, members of the club were able to drive their vehicles into a secret parking structure keeping them away from the throngs of people crowding the surrounding areas of the hotel.
