The Waldorf, 1894
Description
Black and white photograph depicting the Waldorf, which opened to the public March 15th, 1893, looking South on 5th Avenue. The corner building in the right foreground is the residence of John Jacob Astor. The Astoria was built and opened November 1, 1897. The two hotels became known as the Waldorf-Astoria. Photograph was taken in 1894. It will be noted that 5th Avenue was then paved with cobblestones.
