Description
Black and white photograph depicting citizens of Walldorf, Germany, gathered in honor of John Jacob Astor. A new 12-foot monument was erected in John Jacob Astor's memory on the 100th anniversary of his death (which occurred March 29th, 1848). The original monument in Walldorf, where Astor was born, was removed by the Nazis in 1943 to be used as scrap for war material.
