In 1961, Eugene Scanlan was appointed the Executive Chef of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Mr. Scanlan was the first native born American to ever be appointed as the Executive Chef of a major American hotel kitchen; a position that had previously only been the exclusive domain of European culinary chefs.
