John W. Gates is seen here with his beloved dog outside of our original Waldorf Astoria Hotel, circa 1900. He was a resident of our first hotel and could be seen at all times with his dog by his side.

This correspondence from 1964 describes the origins of the Martini. According to this evidence, a man by the name of Mr. Martinez visited the original Waldorf Astoria Hotel sometime in the 1890s and suggested this drink to a bartender at the hotel.…
